SUPPORT OUR VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS STUDENTS
Art Shows
AT VPA: Twice a year, VPA hosts our Winter and Spring Arts Festivals where students of dance, drama, art and music get to display their best work from the semester. Students in my classes will have their art on display panels and tables for the audiences viewing pleasure. Tickets are $3 or 3 canned goods to see our students works and performances at each event.
COMMUNITY: Students of VPA also participate in Mercer County Teen Arts each year, a county level art competition that takes place every May at Mercer County Community College . Every year we have at least one student or group of students that move on to State Teen Arts at Ocean County Community College.

HELPFUL LINKS FOR STUDENTS
Artist Statements
In all of my classes, certain projects require a written artist statement. An artist statement is a detailed description of the artist's work by the artist. When I ask for an artist statement to accompany one of your projects I expect you to give your work a title and to answer the following questions in a short paragraph form: {What did you make? How did you make it? Your overall opinion of the work.} Although I only expect 3-4 sentences and a title, you could always discuss your work in more depth. The link to the right will tell you a little more about artist statements as well as other points that can be discussed.

Self-Assessment Essay
Usually around mid-semester you will be asked to reflect on one project you feel has been your best from the beginning of the semester up until that point. You will answer 10 questions in the form of 2 paragraphs discussing the work of your choice.
